Tuesday 5K Update

I am dreading this report more than I can say. But I promised I would do an update on the last Tuesday of the month on my prep for the 5K next year. Let's just say I barely exercised this month. I got sidelined by two bouts of sickness, a seized up back and neck, a couple of migraines and a completely psycho schedule.

That said. I realize a lot of the problem was the fact that I got off my schedule of working out. Now that it is darker later in the morning, I really don't want to wake up too early. By the time I have a few minutes to work out it is too late in the morning (I have things to do) or too late at night, when my crazy schedule and exhaustion set in. But I am determined I will find a schedule that works for me and I will get my back in shape again.

I did exercise this morning. Well more of a stretch and strengthen session. But at least I am motivated again.

I lost a total of 2 pounds this month and I am not sure that even counts. I am eating a lot better at breakfast and lunch but I am also baking up a storm and I can't seem to keep my fingers out of all the tasty doughs. I am really trying to eat more veggie friendly meals and I feel a lot better when I am consciously eating well thought out meals rather than unconsciously snacking as I wander through the house from one task to the next.

Hopefully next month I will have better news to report. I am really nervous because I know I have a busy month ahead of me. Becca is getting baptized on the 31st. Her birthday is on the 15th. I am working on a really big writing project. I still have a lot of preserving to do and Halloween is coming. Somehow I will make this a priority.

Two Fun Fests

I do realize I have fallen off the blogging wagon just a bit. But you know school comes, sickness comes, soccer arrives, and gymnastics and canning and gardening and work. So please excuse me. I do however have a few fun pics.
Saturday should have been spent getting my Son's ever lengthening locks cut and canning salsa but we just got to busy playing. In the morning we went to the Sky Fest. Tom's company is one of the sponsors and we like to make a visit in the morning. Usually they have fun stuff for the kids to do and that was seriously lacking this year but next year it will be my turn to wake up bright and early for one of the balloon rides. We came home and did some light cleaning and then headed off to the OctoberFest in Brian Head. Tom was a little excited to go.

Tom had to wear his German stuff and I promise you he was the only one wearing it besides the cooks and musicians. But did he care? Tom really cares very little what other people think of him most of the time. It is one of the reasons I love him. The OctoberFest was pretty low key but they had some real authentic German food that was extremely tasty and definitely too heavy for lunchtime. The kids liked the pretzels, brats and apple strudel. I loved it all and ate it all. Sorry Trudi for the pic of you with your mouth full.

We then listened to some good old fashioned German music. Isaac dared Tom and I to get out on the dance floor and although I totally offered to do a Polka with Tom he said he had no idea how to do it. Instead, we watched the kids dance. Lia has way too many boyfriends. Here is one of her friends/beaus twirling her across the dance floor.

After the kids had danced off all our calories we loaded up and headed up to the highest peak on the mountains for a short walk. We anxiously kept our kids from the edges while we gushed over the amazing view.

We came home tidied up some more as we got ready for the football game and more friends for dinner. It was more tasty food and I gained, at least, the entire two pounds back I lost last week. Aah Well, the outdoors, family, food and friends and Tom in a silly hat. Who could ask for more.

I lost today to migraines but I have every intention of getting that Salsa done tomorrow.

A Great Utah Find

Media One (the publishers of SLC newspapers and Wasatch Woman Mag) is putting together a hard bound photo book of Utah called Capture My Utah. Anyone can upload their Utah photos for possible use in the book. Once you upload your photos they get voted on by other Utah people.

Eventhough I am not a fantastic photographer I have uploaded a few of my photos but I would really like to see my Utah friends in the book too. So please go to this site, sign up, upload your photos of people, places and events of Utah and vote for your favorites. If you want to vote for me (but only if you like them) you can click on the button on the side of my blog. Let me know if you enter so I can go see and vote for you.

What a Week

It's been one of those weeks (The past seven days) where I look back and think Whoa! Did I really do all that? When did I do that? How did I do that? I better get the highlights down before I forget them. The memory is already slipping away from me. Here are a few of the highlights in no particular order.
Today, my little Lili started preschool. Isn't she adorable. I know I am prejudiced but sometimes I look at my girls and think they are absolutely lovely adorable creatures. Of course, that does not count the moments they are fighting and there are plenty of those. Lia happily went off to preschool and enjoyed every moment. I love her teacher. Becca had her for preschool and I knew Lia would be so happy.
The girls started gymnastics. Lia had her first class and jumped and hung and ran around as if she was made for gymnastics. Becca started level one and now goes for an hour and a half 2x a week, a serious wrench in the well oiled wheels of our established schedule. Can you hear me laughing. Well-oiled schedule. Will that ever happen? I seriously doubt it.
Isaac made a goal in soccer. Happy Happy moment that of course I had to relive several times.
I canned pears and pear jam, dried several batches of apples and I think I made an apple blackberry pie in there somewhere.
I had a crazy cooking day where I made Napa Valley pork loin, homemade focaccia and a heavenly chocolate pear tart for an International dinner on Friday night.
I walked about a mile and a half to the farmer's market and a mile and a half back with a bag of food, all because I ate too much at the International Dinner and I was determined to walk it off.
I attended a couple of the Parade of Homes houses and then spent an enjoyable evening on Saturday at a friends home eating ridiculous amouts of food again. The kids swam with about 10 other kids for 3 hours and the boys did some kind of crazy screaming dance as they watched BYU win over Oklahoma. I tried to kill some pesky hornets that went all killer bee on me. Phew I escaped. It was a great evening and the girls had fun bonding.
Labor Day was pretty uneventful except for the jam and pear canning. We cooked up some hotdogs because I was having an extremely rare hotdog craving.
I finished up my holiday gift guide for Wasatch Woman. OK almost finished. There are a few loose ends. But seriously, if you hear that I accepted the assignment to do their gift guide again next year would someone get me a therapist. I do not enjoy compiling gift guides. Not fun Not fun at all.

Mommy rollercoaster

Have you ever had one of those roller coaster Mom days? Those days where there are some seriously high moments like having a backyard picnic with your four-year old daughter. And then there are those low moments like when every single child is whining and complaining about something and you just can't wait for bedtime.

Today was like that and I felt seriously confused by it all. How can you love being with your children so much at one moment and then want to run as far away from them as you can the next?

Aah Well Tomorrow is another day.
